Weekday or weekend boat rental in Hong Kong: how to pick your date
A weekday private boat in Hong Kong is $1,000 cheaper for the day trip and $2,000 cheaper at night. Here's how 天天租船 prices both, and how to decide.
The gap, in numbers
A weekday boat is cheaper. The catch is that someone has to take the day off. 天天租船 prices the day trip, 10AM to 6PM, from $7,500 on a weekday and from $8,500 on weekends and public holidays. The Victoria Harbour night cruise leaves at 7PM, from $5,500 on a weekday and from $7,500 on weekends and public holidays. Whole boat, up to 33 people. So the weekday saving is $1,000 on a day trip and $2,000 on a night cruise.
Night cruise: the weekday is the obvious pick
The night-cruise gap is the one worth noticing. Nobody needs leave for a 7PM departure: finish work, head to the boarding point, get on. If your group was leaning toward the harbour anyway, a weekday evening is the cheapest way to have the whole boat to yourselves.
Day trip on a weekday: who it suits
The day trip is a harder call. A weekday costs $1,000 less and the water is quieter, with fewer boats around when you drop the SUP and the inflatable in. It suits companies, people with flexible hours, and families during school holidays. But it only works if everyone can actually come.
Why weekends usually win
Weekends have one advantage, and it usually wins: attendance. If you're splitting the boat between a few families or a group of 20 or 30 friends, getting everyone off work on the same Tuesday rarely happens. An extra $1,000 spread across the group hurts less than two families dropping out.
Public holidays
Public holidays are priced as weekends. If you're planning around Christmas, New Year or a long weekend, budget from $8,500 and you won't be caught out. And if the weather turns, the trip can be moved to another date; we'll go through how that works when you confirm.
